Management and Business Consultancy Standards Project

MSC begins project to develop new National Occupational Standards in Management and Business Consultancy

The Management Standards Centre is currently engaged in a UK wide project to develop new standards for Management and Business Consultancy, following extensive feedback that such standards are needed.

During 2007-08 the MSC undertook a standards mapping project, which entailed a high level mapping of the 8 SFEDI Core Business Support Standards against the IBC Management Consultancy Competency Framework, the National Occupational Standards for Management and Leadership and the Investors in People Competency definitions. This exercise identified linkages and gaps within and between the present standards, and enabled us to propose the development of new, simplified, future oriented standards based on national & international research.

The final National Occupational Standards for Management and Business Consultancy were approved by the project steering group in May 2009 and comprise 13 standards in four key areas;

Area A - Develop and sustain relationships

Area B - Work with the client to identify their needs and agree solutions

Area C - Support the client in achieving sustainable solutions

Area D - Maintain professional standing
